Here are some tips for ensuring a good comfortable for to cycling shorts, in other word minimal chaffing and rashes!
- A snug fit is essential; if your cycling or tri shorts are too big you will chafe wherever a wrinkle forms between you and some other object- saddle, other leg, etc.
- Body Glide (or some other mineral based lube) is your best friend; lube up your crotch anywhere it comes in contact with the saddle or where you legs might rub together.
- Never wear anything between your skin and cycling shorts- they will not work that way and may cause more chaffing. If you want underwear for cycling- many cycling stores have specially fitted cycling short underwear, the regular stuff doesn’t work well and can cause chaffing
- Wash your shorts after every use
- Get one of those puffy mesh body ball things for the shower, you should shower and wash well with soap ASAP after a ride, especially indoor rides where you sweat a lot.
- If you sweat an excessive amount, consider careful application of an antiperspirant to reduce the moisture that can soften the skin (if all other options fail)
- Shaving down you legs and where you contact the saddle might help.
- Consider lighter weight shorts for indoor riding they will allow more evaporation and less heat build up leading to softened and chaffed skin.
