RTC Entrance Criteria

RTC ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The RTC eligibility criteria are;

  1. TriBC membership in good standing (or membership in good standing and written recommendation from a triathlon PSO affiliated with TriBC- Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario)
  2. Proof of draft legal competence (CCA racing license or evaluation by RTC coach)
  3. Signed agreement to abide by the RTC Code of Conduct and Athlete Agreement
  4. Payment of RTC fees as outlined in Triathlon Canada RTC Entrance Policy
  5. ParaTriathletes must provide proof of classification and eligibility for ITU ParaTriathlon (see associated ITU ParaTriathlon documents)

TRIATHLON CANADA RTC ENTRANCE POLICY

The RTC Vancouver entrance requirements are based on the Triathlon Canada entrance policy.  Where appropriate, RTC Vancouver specific interpretations to the policy are outlined below.

The athlete population targeted by the RTC Vancouver is;

  • Triathlon Canada targeted athletes
  • Athletes with International Elite cards
  • Athletes with TriBC Elite cards (junior or senior)
  • Developing athletes with potential as triathletes
  • ParaTriathletes preparing for Rio2016

The overall objective of the RTC is to provide a distraction free training environment that is conducive to excellence while respecting the long term and short term developmental needs of the individual.

RTC ENTRANCE STANDARDS

Entrance to the RTC is performance based. Athletes must demonstrate their ability to perform and positively contribute to the daily training environment for the RTC.

There are four levels of performance standards at the RTC, each associated with

  1. Triathlon Canada High Performance; athletes achieving all Triathlon Canada high performance standards for junior or senior
  2. Triathlon Canada Development; athletes achieving all Triathlon Canada development standards for junior or senior
    • Senior athletes performing at this level have achieved Triathlon Canada’s World Cup entry standard
  3. RTC Development; athletes within 5% of one Triathlon Canada age specific standards and within 10% in the second.
    • Athletes in the RTC Development program must demonstrate ongoing progress towards Triathlon Canada Development standards and hold an elite racing license at the PSO or Triathlon Canada level.
  4. RTC Training; athletes within 10% of one Triathlon Canada age specific standard. Athletes in RTC Training program must;
    •  progress towards RTC Development standards, and 
    • obtain a BC elite license within 12 months.

The swim standards indicated are for both short course (25 m) and long course (50 m) performances (Please see link to Triathlon Canada guidelines on attempting standards for more details).
